Gilles Bellemare is an accredited member of the Canadian Music Centre, and is recognized by the music community in Canada as an active musician pursuing a dual career as a composer and conductor. He is regularly invited to conduct leading orchestras in Europe, South America, Japan, the United States and Canada. He was the artistic director and principal conductor of L’Orchestre symphonique de
Trois-Rivières from its foundation in 1978
until 2005. In January 2005, he received the prestigious “artistic director of the year”
award from the Conseil québécois de la musique.

His repertoire covers all periods, from Baroque to Contemporary, including many of the most difficult works in the symphonic repertoire.
He has commissioned and given the first performances of over 40 new Canadian works.
